Jessica Ennis-Hill undecided on heptathlon comeback in Gotzis

May 18th, 2015 Posted by News No Comment yet

Jess Ennis-Hill will decide tomorrow whether to go ahead with her comeback heptathlon in Gotzis after coming through long jump and javelin competitions yesterday.

The Olympic champion finished third and sixth respectively at the Loughborough International meet, jumping 6.16m and throwing 43.88m.

Rival Katarina Johnson-Thompson has already withdrawn from Gotzis and Ennis-Hill, who became a mum 10 months ago, will only go if she feels in good enough shape to achieve the Rio Olympic qualifying score.

She said: “I always knew it would be hard coming back after having Reggie, but the hardest thing has been injuries and wanting to do training but being held back.

“It’s been both Achilles. It’s something that can be managed, it’s not a disastrous injury. I’ve just not been able to get the full amount of training I wanted to do.”

Still, she was able to compete in two disciplines yesterday and described that as “a really good sign”.

Now she will sit down with coach Toni Miniciello and decide whether taking on seven – as well as the world’s best heptathletes – is the smart thing to do at this stage of her comeback.

May 1st, 2015 Posted by News No Comment yet

Jessica Ennis-Hill concedes that the cheeky exploits of Peppa Pig don’t quite compare to the lure of competition. Much as the London Olympic heptathlon gold medallist loves her new role as a parent – complete with the hours of watching Peppa flummox her intellectually challenged father on television – she misses the buzz of stepping on to the track.
