Star Wars: The Force Awakens may be breaking box office records, but Jessica Ennis-Hill is also making headlines by starring in her own safety-conscious version of the hit film. She’s teamed up with fellow Santander ambassadors Jenson Button and Rory McIlroy to promote the bank’s partnership with Transport for London and innovate cycle start up, Blaze.
Dressed in her finest Storm Trooper attire and riding through city streets with Jenson by her side, Jess shows what a difference this technology can make to cyclists.
A green laser is projected six metres in front of the bike to let pedestrians and motorists know a cyclist is approaching. The best part is that the light can be seen from different angles – not quite a lightsaber, but it’s close enough!
All of London’s Santander Cycles will be kitted out with Blaze Laserlights over the course of next year – that’s around 11,500 in total. A pilot scheme has already proved a hit in the capital, with 75% of people saying the technology improved their confidence.
