Day two of the heptathlon started with the long jump event. This year Jessica switched back to her right foot for take off and it served her well today with a leap of 6.43 m. Her compatriot Katarina Johnson-Thompson, her main rival going into this event, was awarded three no jumps effectively ending her chance of a medal.
Javelin, the penultimate event of the heptathlon; traditionally one of Jessica’s weaker events she brought all the experience she has to throw 42.51m. This result kept her top of the leaderboard, closely followed by Nadine Broersen from the Netherlands.
The final event of the heptathlon was the 800m. Jessica ran a time of 2:10.13 to complete the heptathlon in 1st place! A total points score of 6669.
Jessica Ennis-Hill wins the World Championship with another gold medal to add to her collection. Her little boy Reggie will be very proud!
Congratulations Jess, and congratulations too to her coach Toni Minichiello, a great team effort!
