Jessica was honoured to receive the Lifetime Achievement award at this year’s BBC Sports Personality of the year event.
The prestigious award is given to a sportsperson who has made a major impact on the sporting world during their life. With her London 2012 gold and Rio 2016 silver, Jessica is part of a very exclusive group of only 12 British women in history to have won an Olympic or World Championship gold in a track and field event, some of whom joined her on stage at the event.
“I am completely overwhelmed, to be stood here firstly with these amazing women who have inspired me throughout my career and in this room full of so many legends is unbelievable.
“When I first stepped on to the track it was by chance really, my parents took me down to just burn off some energy, my mum joked about it being cheap childcare. From that point on, I fell in love with the sport and could never imagine I’d have the years I’ve had and the career I’ve had.
“I just couldn’t be happier and I am so proud.”
