DENISE LEWIS believes Jessica Ennis is “primed” to emulate her and claim Olympic heptathlon gold in London this summer.

Lewis, 39, who triumphed at the 2000 Games in Sydney, concedes the Sheffield athlete, 26, has room for improvement but has backed her to stand on the top step of the podium on home soil.

“People are concerned about her Olympic experience and the fact she hasn’t been to a Games before.

“I think she can surprise and come away with the gold medal."
